What exactly is Salmon (Fjord) Trout?
Salmon Trout is not exactly Salmon and it comes from Trout family. However, It is very similar to Salmon. It should be called “Fjord Trout”. Norwegian Fjord Trout is raised in the pure and cold Norwegian Fjord where seawater and fresh water from the glaciers meet, and therefore gains a rich taste and a pure aftertaste.
Where does Singapore import salmon trout from?
The biggest supplying country is from Norway, especially for Air – Flown Fresh. For frozen, it can be from Chile. Then we have smaller supplying countries like Australia, US, Canada, Scotland.
Is there a difference in cost between salmon and salmon trout?
Yes. Salmon Trout is usually 10% – 20% higher than Salmon in the past few years. This is due to the economy of scale. Salmon has 10 times more production than Salmon Trout. Salmon Trout takes a longer time to grow than a Salmon thus they eat more and this impacts the cost.
Is the import of salmon trout quite a recent thing or has it been around for a long time?
At Fisk, our parent company Snorre Food started the import at the same time. 34 years ago.
Is there a difference in demand for salmon trout and salmon in Singapore?
In Singapore the preference is for Salmon. Between 70%-80% prefer Salmon as compared to Salmon Trout.
